Date: 04 February 1997 10:22 Ok, so Mike reckons that Keswick is the most exciting place on earth. What I want is a list of things that can be done in Keswick, examples are: Going to the Pencil Museum - Sole home of Rexel Pencils and site of the Largest Pencil in the world (about 1 storey High) Please be as insulting as possible; I look forward to deleting your reply: ---------- From: Michael Barnby In Keswick you can rock climb - indoors and out. The local valley in which Keswick sits has some of the best climbing in the country. You can also run (road running, half marathons, fell, X-country). The world orienteering champs is coming to the lakes in 1999 because it has world class areas. The World paragliding champs was held above Keswick last year. You can do this yourself from many places in and around Keswick. These companies also offer things like quad biking, bungee jumping etc. For those who like life at a more sedate pace, there is walking - the highest mountain in England is just down the valley. You can ride horses from a number of treking places around the area. There is the lake which has a scenic boat service around it as well as a full range of water sports (windsurfing, rowing, canoeing (kyaks and canadian) sailing, dragon boating) All these outdoor pursuits are supported by a wide range of outdoor shops. There are around 10 different specialist outdoor shops in a town smaller than Malvern. These all kick so much arse over Blacks in Worcester. That's why we have thousands of people coming to Keswick every year. ---------- From: Andrew Fletcher You can climb on the wonderfully small climbing wall, when you are in the densest area of cliffs and mountains in England. You can wonder around the dozens of camping and climbing shops. (Keswick is the climbing and camping shop capital of britain) There is a chip-and-put golf course in Keswick, par for the course is about 35, shame Im a par 37, so my total score was 72. Besides the only reason people ever go to keswick is to the camping shops and for food. ---------- From: Dave Cox For a really exciting evening out, why not cut off your own head and watch it slowly dissolve as you soak it in a bath of acid. Or tune into the local radio station " White Noise FM " and sit back and relax as those wonderful static sounds crackle around the house. ---------- Regards: James Inge What to do in Keswick: Good question..... Get wet (and cold) in the lake. Pitch and put? Look at the Moot Hall? Find some friendly lake district inhabitants (sheep)? Leave? ---------- From: Duncan Bosworth You can go to the Jennings Brewery, I'm not sure if its in Keswick but it definitely is not far away ---------- From: Owain Cole Look Mike, it's crap. ---------- From: Mik Casson It's in the NORTH ENOUGH SAID you anti-social midlander git. ---------- We contacted the tourist information services and they sent us the following areas of interest: Climbing Wall, Various Golf Courses, Paragliding facilities, Quad biking, Somebody from Mikes school got done for armed robbery (using a fake gun) and got no dosh. Put away for 5 years.
